AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college and career readiness and/or preparatory program that shifts instruction and learning to a more equitable and student-centered approach. The goal is to close the opportunity gap, so that students are prepared for college, careers, and life.
AVID at MMA
Many students desire to go to college and are willing to work hard, but many of them do not have the opportunity to be college-ready. These are often the students who will be the first in their families to attend college and are from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
To address this need, the AVID Elective course is offered at MMA for each grade level (AVID 9, 10, 11,12). For one period a day, students receive the additional academic, social, and emotional support that will help them succeed in our school’s most rigorous courses.
In order to be an AVID student, one must apply before they begin their freshman year as we encourage all AVID students to be apart of the program for all four years at MMA. We also allow students going into their sophomore year to apply as well. We are confident that each of our AVID students are closer to being college ready and WILL be successful in their future endeavors. They will also never forget their AVID experience and how AVID has helped paved the way. Our statistics show this to be true!
